We work hard and pay taxes, so we should expect the government to spend every dollar well. Our resources should go toward things that really matter and make a difference to our country, not just a political campaign.
Congress has an addiction to wasteful spending. Politicians constantly pursue special pet projects which rarely have any local or national benefit. Whether it is because they are trying to appease big donors or because they are trying to bring back a trophy to their district, politicians use these projects to bolster their reelection campaigns at the expense of the common good.
Their need to build a list of accomplishments to run in campaign ads, and their need to satisfy the demands of their financial supporters, leads to untold amounts of wasteful spending. Term limits would remove reelection as a priority and allow our representatives to focus on real issues and actual solutions.
